Marriage is in the air on Grimm Season 3 Episode 17, as Monroe and Rosalee hash out some more wedding details with Nick being a Grimm and trying on wedding dresses.

All the talk of weddings brings Nick back to proposing to Juliete and finding the ring still in his dresser.

Meanwhile, Nick's Mom, Kelly, helps escort her to Portland, but Adalind's reunion with Nick and Juliette is anything but happy.

Renard, too, gets to meet his daughter for the first time when Adalind comes to visit him.

Grimm Review: The Long Con

Au revoir, Diana, you creepy baby, you!

In a truly shocking ending, Grimm Season 3 Episode 18 pulled the wool over our eyes as Captain Renard and the rest of the Nick's team end up ultimately helping Kelly hit the road with Diana.

It's a good decision to bring the baby story to a close. Mostly, as the installment progressed, it became clear that the stalemate between the Royal and the Resistance fighters over the baby and its power would quickly grow boring and tenuous.

As each side fought to one up the other, and as Nick and his (very well formed team) ended up being caught in the middle, Renard made the very admirable and costly choice of handing the baby over to Viktor.

Only to steal her back!

It's an elaborate plan that brings the baby back with the good guys, but makes Adalind still think the Royals have Diana. It provides an opportunity for Kelly to make up for past mistakes with Nick by taking care of a baby that's on the road with her this time around - and it gives Adalind something other to do aside from being with Diana.

Adalind is a mother scorned and it is a brutally harsh moment for the new mother.

The baby brought out the better side of Adalind, but this development lets Adalind go back to her roots of causing trouble for everyone in an effort to gain her daughter back or just general hell to pay. It puts her at odds with Renard particularly.

Adalind informs him of the paternity, joins his side, unites him together with the baby and even wants to bring their family closer together, while Renard throws all of it away in an effort to keep his daughter safe. The man had an impossible decision and he's going to bear the most of Adalind's wrath.

Nonetheless, one really does feel for Adalind (never thought I would say that). She gets the short end of the stick and does not even get one final goodbye. Instead, her newborn is kidnapper from her right in a police station. It's an absolutely cold but effective method.

Odds and Ends:

  • The look of extreme panic on Hank's face when he wonders if Adalind's baby is his.
  • Uh, Zombie Nick, are you home? It's time to come out and play again.
  • Kudos to Monroe and Rosalee for continually putting up with Nick. I'd start putting a snooze message for him when he calls in the wee hours of the night.
  • Kelly continually justifying that Adalind's mother really killed herself continues to be the joke that keeps on giving.

Do you feel bad for Adalind ultimately losing her baby?

Grimm Review: Trubel Maker

$

There's a new Grimm in town on Grimm Season 3 Episode 19, and sadly she's even newer at this whole thing than Nick is.

Trubel is rather odd, though, thematically, for the series.

She's literally coming out of nowhere to wreck havoc with the rest of the Wesen population Portland. Sure, it's possible she really does not know what a Grimm is, but in Grimm how likely is that?

As things stand right now, Trubel seems much more likely to be planning something.

Viktor mentions wanting to know more about Nick in this installment and while he might be talking more about using Adalind for that purpose, what's to say that Royals don't have their own Grimms?

No matter where Trubel ultimately falls, her appearance provides some contrast for how far Nick has genuinely come in this world.

The flashback to him rubbing Wolfesbane all over Hank shows how completely out of the loop he was regarding the Wesen world, and - while he's certainly not an expert - he can handle himself much more competently now.

At the time of that flashback, Nick was purely a cop, and when he's willing to break all sorts of protocols and laws with Trubel, Nick is more Grimm now than ever before.

Speaking of poor Adalind, if she wasn't so overwhelmed with grief, she would see that all of Nick's friends were pushing her around. Much like Juliette, I'm feeling bad for Adalind - but the feeling does not last for long as she once again switches sides.

Viktor successfully uses the information that neither party has the baby to sweet talk Adalind back towards his side. However, no one aside from Rosalee seem to think this entire plan is gong to blow up in their faces. Yes, Adalind has done some very bad things, but her maternal instincts are spot on and the royal baby and Hexenbiest powers could potentially send them over the edge.

As Adalind has shown in the past, there's nothing she won't do to get what she wants.

Ultimately, this installment falls short of the stellar the standards set on Grimm Season 3. There's nothing much to Trubel yet and Adalind is mostly on a misery tour looking for Diana. With a few episode left in the season, I would be hoping momentum would begin to pick up rather than slow down.

Is Trubel going to cause trouble for Nick?

There's a new Grimm in town on Grimm Season 3 Episode 19, and nobody has a clue of how to deal with her sudden appearance.

Trubel is her name, and she doesn't know what a Grimm is; therefore, it is up to Nick to take her under his wing and show her the ropes.

Meanwhile, Adalind continues to search for Diana, but she is shut out at ever turn. This leaves Adalind making one desperate move to find her baby.

Only Nick knows the trouble Trubel sees - and he's determined to see her through this Grimm initiation period.

But Grimm Season 3 Episode 20 demonstrates, helping Trubel is going to take some serious work.

Juliette's treatment of Trubel was rather fantastic. She's nice to her and empathetic of her situation, but her look at Nick is priceless.

Nick's crazy world will always cause people to come through their house in need of rescue, but one look at Trubel and Juliette knows Trubel's going to be: trouble for him, even if Nick isn't quite there yet. It brings about a source of conflict for Nick and Juliette that is not his secret but because of his secret.

Kudos to Nick for continuing to try the rehab with Trubel; he's really trying to mold her into his own image of what a Grimm is, yet it's clear Trubel wants to do things her way.

Trubel's own way is sometimes a shock to Grimm's system, but as the installment races towards its climax, Trubel's presence becomes a welcome relief.

Stepping back into the world and seeing it through new eyes is always a fun sight, and she brings a fresh, fun take on the usual boys club that the Grimm adventuring has done lately.

The ending, though, feels rushed, adding yet another layer to a season that is already packed: Nick's zombie state, the baby, the resistance, the royals, a wedding and more.

Bringing another key into the equation echoes stories laid out back in Grimm Season 2; I'm happy they're being brought back up again, but this season needs a little more closure first.

Nonetheless, with Grimm Season 3 coming to a close, this could be the time to bring the story back up. Speaking of Nick's zombie state, it seems the story has been completely disregarded at this point and it's unclear if it's ever going to make another appearance.

Adalind looks to be back up to her old tricks, but with everyone in on the secret, I imagine this book of spells is going to be much more potent than a batch of blood cookies. This time, Adalind is fueled by her desire to get Diana and she's willing to risk a lot more because of it.

Do you want Trubel to stick around?

Grimm Review: Remembering the Past

It seems like just a few seasons ago Adalind came around to wreck some havoc on Juliette.

Imagine my complete lack of surprise then when she came breaking into their home to steal a few things of Juliette's things on Grimm Season 3 Episode 21.

The Portland Grimm

Just about all of us saw this coming the minute Adalind did her breaking and entering. If there's some screwing over to be done, Adalind is right there, ready and waiting to do it to Juliette.

No matter the predictability, however, Adalind continued to be conniving and smart. She knows Renard is lying through his teeth about Diana, and the best way to get information is to go to the man who is really calling the shots: Nick.

By doppelganging as Juliette, Adalind can find the information she craves and get back at everyone.

The stronger of tonight's stories iswasRolick and Josh because they bring back plots on Grimm that I've been wanting to go back to for a while now: particularly the keys. Nick is making his name known in the Grimm universe and all the Grimms are coming out to play with their own keys that've been passed along throughout the generations.

Yes, Monroe is right about the keys,

Monroe: Well, we're one key closer to...God knows what.

But the forward momentum is wonderful. The lost treasure of Wesen-lantis is still very fary away, but getting back to the core mythology is exciting.

Trubel is still in the middle of things; getting to know her a little better is fun. A good majority like her enough to want her to stick around for at least a little while - and I have to agree, she brings a fun spark to the show.

One of the fantastic readers even mentions the idea of a spin-off; while there's not Agent Carter-like reveal for Grimm this season, I can definitely see a future episode in Grimm Season 4 as a backdoor pilot to a Trubel series.

It's certainly a callback to the old Grimm days when they wandered around and actively saught after Wesen.

Are Rosalee and Monroe going to have a nice wedding, or are they doing to elope?

Monroe and Rosalee's wedding went about as well as we all expected on Grimm Season 3 Episode 22

In other words, it mostly all went to hell in a hand basket.

Surprisingly, not all of Nick's drama is the cause of the wedding's problems. Rosalee's sister, after a little too much wine, is more than happy to completely trash and stain the wedding dress.

It's a major wedding foul, but at least Monroe and Rosalee are content in knowing now they can pick the gown they really like instead of one they were never really crazy about anyway.

Adalind, too, is a big arbiter of the drama, as she actually gets away with sleeping with Nick. Adalind's plan is actually pretty genius, with her goal not about finding information, but getting revenge on Nick's powers and doing what the Royals want.

In fact, her motives are not necessarily for revenge as at all.

As Grimm Season 3 comes to a close, Adalind is on a plane heading to Europe and dreams of reuniting with her baby. In a way, Adalind's motives are pure: she misses her baby and is being a fierce, protective mother in trying to get her back. She's not stopping for anyone.

While her actions are deplorable in terms of what they have done to Nick and the collateral damage around him, Adalind does not deserve all of the hate.

The finale is a game-changer for Nick now that he's lost his power. He mentions that being a Grimm has caused extra drama in his life, but Nick really does not know how to live his life without being a Grimm anymore.

It's an innate feature of him and his personality - and without it he's not a whole person. Nick's now gone from augmenting his Grimm powers with super hearing and zombification toward normal humanity. He's gone from guiding Trubel in this new world to potentially needing her to guide him.

Nick's de-Grimming brings Nick and Juliette towards a crossroad.

Juliette's been pretty good about the entire situation, but the Wesen world takes one step too close when Adalind sleeps with Nick as her. At this point, she's most likely ready for Nick to just give it all up completely for the sake of their relationship and safety.

On the other side, there's the entire team of people Nick has assembled that probably want him to continue being a Grimm so he can continue to help them and others. This is all assuming that Nick actually gets his powers back.

Monroe and Rosalee - although their wedding does fall apart at the end - actually do get to say their vows and exchange rings before Trubel breaks up the party... yet, even on their own wedding day, they're still worried about Nick's de-Grimming.

Those two could not be better friends to Nick and I really, really hope that Nick will figure out a way to repay them so it's not so continually one-sided.

Finally, perhaps the biggest shock of all (aside from Nick losing his powers) is the annoying FBI agent shooting Renard. I don't think the beloved Captain is going to die, but watching him take some bullets to the chest is quite the reminder that he does have the opportunity to die.

(Right, Grimm? There will be no killing of Renard please).

What did you think of Nick's De-Grimming?

Grimm Season 4 Episode 1 Review: Thanks for the Memories

$

Hang onto your hats, folks, because Grimm Season 4 Episode 1 kept the tension as taut as a high wire!

Nick's New Deal - Grimm

Our heroes have had little enough time to breathe, let alone come to terms with everything that happened in the Grimm Season 3 finale.

Far more questions are raised than answered, but they play it well throughout.

Thanks to Adalind, Nick has lost his Grimm powers. He wonders whether this might be a good thing, finally allowing him to have a normal life with Juliette. This is wishful thinking on his part, because the bad Wesen won't go away simply because he can't see them anymore. I suspect it won't take long before he really begins to appreciate this.

I've always been curious as to how much of Nick's other abilities were supernatural in origin - specifically, his fighting skills. He may suddenly find himself far more helpless against super-strong Wesen than he is expecting!

Even though Adalind doesn't appear in this episode, her presence is definitely felt. Nick is powerless because of her, and Renard wouldn't have been at Nick's house if she hadn't de-Grimmed Nick. Juliette feels violated after the bloodshed in her home and Adalind's impersonation of her and seduction of Nick.

Hank: [about Adalind] She's a Hexenbiest, a witch.
Nick: In more ways than one.

Adalind damaged the trust between Juliette and Nick with her little stunt. Nick feels guilty because he was tricked into having sex with Adalind, and Juliette at some level actually blames him for it, which is unfairly misdirected anger.

What Adalind did was wrong on so many levels that I hope the writers aren't just going to gloss it over and say, "Hey, all's well that ends well!" after Nick inevitably regains his Grimm powers. Adalind has a lot to answer for, though she also has her own surprise coming when she gets to Vienna and discovers that Prince Viktor doesn't actually have her baby.

Sgt. Wu, meanwhile, is on his own personal journey of discovery. He's still trying to understand what he saw when he was attacked by an Aswang last season, and he's not really doing any better than Hank was after he saw the Wildermann. The situation is only complicated by his growing suspicions of Nick and company after he finds the Grimm-lore book in Trubel's room - something is gonna give sooner or later, and they better be ready to handle it.

There's also the matter of the Steinadler FBI agent, who seems to be showing a suspicious and downright alarming level of interest in Trubel. What is she up to? Whatever it is, I doubt it's good news.

The case of the week features an octopus-headed, brain-sucking Wesen called a Gedachtnis Esser. Not only did he look absolutely freaky, but his ability to steal his victim's memory is downright horrifying when you start to think about it. Nothing is safe, nothing is sacred; he completely destroyed a man's mind (and murdered his girlfriend) over a matter of what seems to be corporate espionage. Kudos to whoever it was in the Grimm writing rooms that came up this creature!

Finally, Captain Renard seems ready to meet his maker, having been declared dead by the doctors after spending the entire episode unconscious in the hospital. I rather doubt his apparent death will stick, but it sure was a fine dramatic way to finish the premiere! No doubt Louise Lombard's mysterious blonde character will have something to do with saving him, given the concerned way she was watching him through the window of his hospital room.

Who do you think the blonde woman is, and how might she save Renard? What is the Steinadler FBI agent planning for Trubel? What will happen when Adalind gets to Vienna? Let's hear what you think in the comments below.

A lot happened during this episode, so you can always catch up and watch Grimm online! Also, be sure to click through the slideshow below - what are you hoping to see during Grimm Season 4? Share your thoughts below!

More Sergeant Wu
Reggie Lee's Wu steals pretty much every scene he's in with his dry, witty one-liners. Wu came close to discovering the truth about Wesen when he was assaulted by an Aswang in "Mommy Dearest," but Nick and Hank managed to convince him he'd imagined it. In the finale, however, he saw a picture of a Lausenschlang in one of Nick's Grimm diaries - how long will it be before he finally puts it all together? Everyone's rooting for Wu, so here's to hoping that he gets to be on the level with Nick and company for once.

Grimm Season 4 Episode 2 Review: Octopus Head

$

Grimm Season 4 Episode 2 shot off out of a cannon... and straight into a brick wall.

The episode began where Grimm Season 4 Episode 1 left off, with Captain Renard apparently dead and Sasha Roiz fans everywhere in tears. Enter Louise Lombard!

Elizabeth LaSalle is, I think, the Hexenbiest we've always wanted. Renard's mother has been on my wish list for characters I wanted to appear on Grimm, and she doesn't disappoint. She was awesome as she froze all the doctors (even those out in the corridor) and broke out that two-headed snake! Some of the best Grimm quotes from this episode were said by or about her:

Sean Renard: Detectives Burkhardt and Griffin, this is Elizabeth LaSalle. My mother.
Hank Griffin: [surprised] Oh.
Nick Burkhardt: Hi.
Sean Renard: ...She's had a little work done.

There was some light humor (and mystery, too) over how Louise Lombard could be playing Sasha Roiz's mother when she's only three years older than he is. She's had some "work" done, indeed! I can't wait to learn more about this formidable Hexen matron. I loved that soft smile when Renard told Elizabeth about his daughter. The subtle pride on her face was more powerful than Adalind's hysterics.

Elizabeth Lascelles: So I'm a grandmother!
Sean Renard: Not that you look it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not digging at Claire Coffee! Throughout the series, Adalind has been consistently portrayed as a wannabe-schemer who thinks that she's way smarter than she actually is; in this episode, she walked right into a Hexen-proof dungeon, for crying out loud. Sadly, I actually laughed when Viktor slammed the door on her and she was left screaming powerlessly. It's endlessly frustrating to me how easily Adalind has been to manipulate over the course of the series.

After a really strong opening, though, the episode devolved into people sitting and talking, people standing and talking, people walking and talking... You get the idea. Brian Letscher, who plays the memory-eating Gedachtnis Esser, spent most of his time walking around and being followed by Trubel.

Of course, it was still the stuff of nightmares when he got down to his brain-sucking business at the end of the episode. Was anyone else as freaked out by that as I was? Yikes! Again, kudos to Letscher and the Grimm design department for coming down with that insomnia-inducing Wesen!

Juliette, meanwhile, returned to the frustrating self-interested persona of previous seasons. Where was the awesome woman who smacked a Klaustreich in the face with a frying pan? She is in total denial if she thinks that their apparent problems will be solved simply because Nick isn't a Grimm anymore. I'm glad that Monroe and Rosalee kept their heads and continued their search, because sticking their heads in the sand won't accomplish anything.

It's not that I don't want you to help Nick, but being a Grimm hasn't exactly been the greatest thing for him... or me.

Juliette

Despite Juliette's (and even Nick's) immediate emotional desires to live a normal life, there's just no way that's going to happen. Like it or not, being a Grimm has shaped Nick as a person, and probably affected him in ways he's not aware of. How long it takes the both of them to realize this remains to be seen.

And then there was poor Wu, who was still struggling with his own Wesen experience and slowly putting together seemingly-unrelated pieces of evidence. I've always liked Reggie Lee's quippy police sergeant, and he almost always has a great line in an episode. Plus, he's got the most fantastically expressive face, too! I can't wait until he actually manages to pin down Nick and get some real answers out of him. It's been a long time coming, though hopefully he'll react better than when he first saw the Aswang.

The episode's conclusion does a lot to redeem its middle, with Wu's attempt to confront Nick about Trubel short-circuited by Nick and Adalind sharing vision (fine timing, that!) and Trubel being abducted by Agent Chavez and some goons I rather doubt work for the FBI.

And what is Chavez up to, anyway? I suspect this is one of those slow-burn, long-term plot threads that will only really be fully revealed over the long haul, but I doubt she has friendly intentions overall. Nice people don't go around kidnapping folks off the street, after all. On the other hand, most Wesen are scared of Grimms, and Trubel had just decapitated a Hundjager...

What to you think, Grimmsters? Did you enjoy the introduction of Renard's mother Elizabeth? Are you frustrated by Juliette's denial? What do you think is Agent Chavez's agenda? How long will Wu let Nick off the hook for his answers? Let us know in the comments below!

Grimm Season 4 Episode 3 Review: Last Fight

For such an apparently case-oriented episode, Grimm Season 4 Episode 3 was a serious let-down: no real mystery, no suspense, not even any red herrings.

I have no problem with knowing who the killer is, even if our heroes are forced to investigate to come to the same knowledge. It just seems silly that the writers would go through the trouble to leave any sort of question as to who killed Bobby Moore when it was painfully obvious from the get-go that the only one who with motive and opportunity was Stan Kingston, the promoter (played with ruthless glee by Ron Canada).

I seriously doubt that very many viewers would have a hard time figuring out that Kingston had to be the killer. There would have been a lot more interest here if we didn't immediately know that Kingston paid Bobby to attack Clay in order to work him up for the big fight, and that Bobby tried to blackmail Kingston after getting the stuffing beaten out of him. Perhaps it could have been improved by showing only Bobby's half of the blackmail conversation and not revealing who paid Bobby off in the first place.

Frankly, a part of me was hoping that they weren't going for the obvious scumbag of the episode. Too bad.

There was one surprise at the end, though, when it was revealed that the young boxer's mother had some serious issues as she tried to work him up for the big fight by attacking him herself. The look on Clay's face when she laid into him was just so sad, an utter betrayal of the relationship he thought he had with her. Seems his mom had some ambitions of her own. No wonder she connected with a guy like Kingston to have Clay "discovered" in the boxing world.

This episode also featured a few fun Grimm quotes - Bud, the Eisbiber, is once again a reliable source of comic relief:

Rosalee: Nick can't see us anymore.
Bud: Oh my God, he's blind?!

Plus there are a few other gems, too, like this exchange between Hank and Nick over a book of Grimm-lore:

Hank: [reading] "A Heftigauroch is a bull-like Wesen that morphs into rage when provoked."
Nick: Seriously? We're talking raging hefty gorock?
Hank: It's your book, man.

Seriously, how many of us think things like this when the characters start spouting all that long pseudo-German at us? That certainly earned a chuckle out of me. It reminded me of a line in Screen Junkies's Honest Trailer for the Harry Potter movies, which encouraged us to relive the excitement of award-winning British actors saying complete and utter nonsense words.

On a more serious note, Nick is finally (finally!) starting to realize that there are some serious downsides to being de-Grimmed. Like nearly getting brutally killed, for instance. Little things like that have a tendency to get to you. In a conversation with Juliette earlier in the episode, Nick expressed a less concrete but somehow more profound fear:

Nick: I just with things were back to...
Juliette: What? Normal?
Nick: I don't even know what that is, anymore. Being a Grimm? Not being a Grimm? Not being a Grimm and knowing?

Is he losing his sense of self, now that he's not a Grimm anymore? Nick had three years to come to terms with his identity as a Grimm in the Wesen world, and the carpet was yanked out from under him again. Thanks, Adalind, for causing an existential crisis.

Unfortunately, they didn't dwell on this for very long, and perhaps they should have. Being a Grimm was an intrinsic, essential part of Nick, even before he knew about it, and it's been ripped away from him.

With any hope, Rosalee, Monroe, and Elizabeth will work their magic and find a cure for him soon - though the creepers lurking outside the spice shop might put a crimp in things.

Meanwhile, Adalind apparently made her escape from her Hexen-proofed cell. I highly suspect that this is all part of Prince Viktor's plans to mess with her and find out more about her Resistance contacts, as he told Rispoli in Grimm Season 4 Episode 2. Though, thinking about it, the only new name that Adalind could give Viktor is Kelly Burkhardt, which would admittedly be very, very bad for obvious reasons.

So, what do you think, fellow TV Fanatics? Did you find the episode a let-down? How much longer will Nick be de-Grimmed? Who were the men lurking outside the spice shop? Leave your thoughts and theories in the comments below!
